SPORT BUILDING COMMUNITY BRIDGES

Social purpose underpins the 3Pillars Fitness Community. We grew out of 3Pillars Project a charity formed in 2015 that supports young people who are vulnerable to crime both in custody and in the community.

We believe that sport starts a conversation, one that allows us to build a trust based relationship that leads and transforms attitudes, ultimately transforming lives.

The inherent values in sport: physical discipline, team work and communication empower people to overcome challenges and engage these young vulnerable men, whilst equipping them with the skills so crucial to overcome life's challenges.

The Need

The criminal justice system is under huge strain and struggles to be effective. We empower people to take control of their lives so they might break the cycle of re-offending, by tackling one of the root causes behind re-offending - employment.

3Pillars Fitness employment and mentoring programme

We run a ‘through-the-gate’ mentoring apprenticeship programme for young men leaving the custody system and for young people in the local community who are vulnerable to crime. Many of the apprentices have completed our 8-week Rugby Academy whilst in custody.

Our fitness company employs apprentices and coaches who are on our prisoner apprenticeship programme. The programme mentors and supports former prisoners to gain the skills and qualifications to ultimately secure sustainable employment and reduce one of the root causes behind re-offending. It is also an opportunity to build the core 'soft' business skills alongside work experience and qualifications that greatly improve job prospects.
